One of the most common questions we get from new people just starting on their CFTO CrossFit journey is, “How often should I work out?” The answer is, “Come as often as your recovery allows.” What you want is change – you want to get leaner, stronger, fitter, faster, etc. And it’s understood that you’ll [...]

The CrossFit Open is Coming to CFTO!
The Open is the first step in the CrossFit Games season and takes place from March 15 until April 24. There is one workout per week for six weeks, and athletes compete to qualify for the CrossFit Games.
Every Thursday we’ll host the weekly Open WOD at 7:30pm. This will be free to CFTO members and $10 for non-CFTO members. Judging will be provided by CFTO staff and members; Coach Dan Kallen will be the organizer and head judge. Heats, start-times, or other logistics will be determined by that week’s WOD, so look to the CFTO website for details.
CFTO Events for 2011
Thanks to our amazing members and the community they support, we had a lot of fun and memorable events in 2010 — BBQs, Fight Gone Bad, Barbells for Boobs, 2010 CrossFit Games, Spartan Race, Warrior Dash, Disneyland, Holiday Party, and more. CFTO women, of course, added to the fun by creating their own memorable events; CFTO guys have their job cut out for them to catch up in 2011.
Gym-wide events for 2011 are lining up to be even better that last year. Click the headline above to see what’s on tap for 2011…

Just a WOD In the Park…
All this week, we’ll be working out in the park! (You’ll find directions at the bottom of the full post.)
Why are we going to the park?
First, it’s fun to mix things up. It is important to have fun and mix things up, ’cause that’s how we stay interested in, engaged in, and moving forward with our fitness program.
Second, the park affords us opportunities to work with a different and broader set of activities — and lots more than just running. We’ll exercise on natural, unstable, uneven surfaces . We’ll get out in the fresh air. We’ll have plenty of room to run around without running into one another. It’s important to mix things up to keep our capacities and skills as broad, general, and un-specialized as possible.
To better understand this, I urge you to read the terrific, CrossFit-classic definition of what CrossFit is — the free CrossFit Journal article, “What is CrossFit?.”
